Reflect on the timeless beauty of Yamato, present-day Nara Prefecture, through the lens of videographer Koichi Hozan. The 72 pentads is a traditional Japanese calendar system originally devised in ancient China that depicts the subtle changes in nature over the seasons by dividing a year into seventy-two five-day periods.

Today’s focus: icicles. The mountainous regions of Nara Prefecture are covered in snow and ice during February. Icicles slowly drip away as the easterly wind signals the coming of spring.
